The Power of a Simple Gesture
How small acts of human connection transform leadership
Leadership does not always require grand strategies or bold declarations. Sometimes it begins with a lollipop — a small, unexpected gesture of recognition that changes everything. This piece explores how simple moments of human connection are the foundation of inspiring leadership.
It started with a lollipop

Years ago, at the end of a long and difficult workshop, a participant handed me a lollipop. It was an unexpected, generous and entirely human gesture. It changed the way I thought about leadership forever. Leadership is often described in terms of strategy, vision and execution. But what if its most powerful dimension is simpler than that? What if the foundation of good leadership is the capacity to see people, acknowledge them and make them feel that they matter?

"Good leadership is not about being the most impressive person in the room. It is about making sure everyone else in the room feels like they are."
The Lollipop Model in practice

The model we built around this idea is deliberately simple. It starts with safety — creating the conditions where people feel secure enough to speak, to try and to fail. From safety comes openness. From openness comes trust. And from trust, something remarkable becomes possible: the kind of leadership that genuinely makes things better for the people around you.
